3 Teams Updates You Might Have Missed & How To Use Or Access Them Aug 28, 2020
Microsoft Teams helps professionals connect and stay productive by bringing all documentation, communication and collaboration into one space. If you are like us, most of your day-to-day communication and activity is somehow tied to Microsoft Teams. Like many other software as a service programs, Teams users benefit from real-time product updates and feature rollouts. That means that the software responds to user needs and is constantly being updated with new features.
Here are the awesome new features that have been added to your Teams app that you might not have heard about.
1 New Meeting and Call Pop-outs – When you join a call/meeting in the desktop app, it will pop out into a secondary window instead of confining your meeting to the main Teams interface. This allows you to have a meeting on one screen and the full Teams app open on another screen etc. It should be noted though, to use this Teams setting, you must turn it on in your general settings.
2 Book appointments with Bookings. The Bookings app inside Teams is an easy way to schedule virtual appointments. You can manage multiple calendars, as well as communications with internal and external attendees, from a single source. The virtual appointments are then held via Microsoft Teams Meetings.
3 Raise your hand in a meeting. This is especially handy when you have a large gathering and don’t want to interrupt the speaker. You let people know you have something to say with the new raise hand feature in Teams. While in a meeting, select the hand icon in your control bar. This will highlight your hand icon on your video feed to let the rest of the attendees know that you’d like to speak. Once you have been allowed to share, you just click the icon again to lower your hand.

Working remotely, whether short-term or permanent comes with many perks, but it also poses many new risks for the security of your organization’s data. For example, if an employee-owned device (laptop, PC, etc.) is infected, that could compromise your business network as well.
We’ve developed a list of guidelines and tips to assist you as you prepare to work from home in a safe, functional work environment. Note, this list is intended for guidance and information purposes only. If you have any questions regarding these tips, please reach out to your supervisor or IT provider for additional information.
Guidelines & Tips
- Ensure that you have the ability to lock your devices (laptop, PC, etc.) and any business relevant information when not in use. Cable locks for laptops should be used when necessary. Laptops and devices should be locked out of sight and/or in the trunk if it must be left in a vehicle unattended
- Avoid using your personal devices for work-related business
- Safely perform conversations without visitors eavesdropping or shoulder surfing, especially while working in a mobile setting, such as a coffee shop
- Protect the data you are accessing by using a VPN to log into the company network, and ensure you are protecting data visible on your screen with a screen protector. This is especially critical for employees who are required to be HIPAA compliant, PCI compliant, etc.
- Restrict the use of devices containing business-relevant information. Do not let family members, friends, or anyone but yourself use company-owned devices or personal devices used for business purposes
- Use strong unique passwords on all your devices and accounts to prevent unauthorized access
- Change default Wi-Fi Router passwords
- Enable WPA-2 or higher encryption
- Ensure your local router firmware is up to date
- Limit the use of public Wi-Fi. Always use a VPN when connecting to public Wi-Fi. Never use public Wi-Fi to send sensitive information without a VPN
- Ensure all personal devices are secure with company-provided or personally owned antivirus and anti-malware software company
- Updated IoT device firmware (smart thermostats, surveillance cameras, etc.)
- Ensure default passwords are changed
- Ensure the software on all devices within your home network are kept up to date (corporate laptop, IOT devices such as cameras and smart thermostats, personal laptops/tablets, etc.)
- Review and follow corporate Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and other relevant policies and procedures
- Remote Work Employee Awareness
- Be extremely cautious of email phishing scams
- Limit social media use
- Don’t reveal business itineraries, corporate info, daily routines, etc.

As a consequence, they have released new patches for Experience Manager, InDesign, and Framemaker.
Of these, the patch for Experience Manager is the largest, and addresses a total of five critical vulnerabilities, tracked as:
In addition, the latest Experience Manager patch addresses six other issues deemed serious, including one that is described as an "execution with unnecessary privileges" that can lead to information disclosure.
If you're running Experience Manager 220.127.116.11, 18.104.22.168, 22.214.171.124 and earlier, or version 6.2 SP1-CFP20 and earlier, then your system is vulnerable.
The patch for InDesign addresses a total of five vulnerabilities, all described as memory corruption flaws, and are tracked as:
These flaws impact InDesign versions 15.11 and below.
Finally, the Framemaker patch addresses two critical security vulnerabilities, tracked as CVE-2020-9726, and CVE-2020-9725. Both of these, if exploited, impact all supported versions of the program.
The company has stressed that none of the flaws addressed in their most recent product patches are currently being used in the wilds, but if you use any of the products listed above, you should make installing the latest patches a priority in order to minimize your risk. After all, it's just a matter of time.
Kudos to Adobe for their fast action on addressing these flaws, but here's hoping the company can finally get their arms around the issues they've been having with their product line soon. The last patch the company released for their popular Acrobat reader addressed 26 bugs of serious or critical importance, and of course, their beleaguered Flash Player has caused no end of trouble for the company and the folks who rely on it.
In any case, these are important patches, and if you use the software mentioned above, they deserve priority.
